Kids Kenpo Karate & Self Defense

Date:Tuesday December 19, 2017
Time: 3:30 pm - 4:15 pm

Kids Kenpo Karate & Self Defense

Kenpo Self-Defense Classes begin with a gentle vinyasa yoga asana warm up, then instruction of karate fundamentals (traditional stances, blocks, and strikes), combined with kungfu tactics (groin strikes and flowing motions), and jiujitsu elements (arm-locks and pinning techniques) within a variety of unique self-defense scenarios. Knowledge of Kenpo Escape Techniques are strongly emphasized as the measure of progress, and while balance and flexibility training are consistently incorporated, there is no requirement for a practitioner to have advanced physical abilities.

This mixed martial art known widely as American Kenpo was created and cultivated by numerous American immigrants that preserved the practical essence of their culture heritage in martial arts while also adapting to modern needs. These immigrants often faced physical violence and were in need of a practical art that focused primarily on self defense for the vulnerable over acrobatic prowess. Only around a century of practitioners makes it relatively recent in martial arts history, but because the original practitioners of this new martial art regularly faced physical conflict they were often injured and at a disadvantage when defending themselves. Many times they would defend themselves from multiple attackers while still recovering from injury, which led to the necessity and innovation of an art that wasn't particularly flashy to watch in demonstration, but was keenly effective in the pursuit of self-defense.

Kenpo Self-Defense is an empowering martial art that encourages every student to progress at their own individual pace. This art focuses primarily on application for each person's unique set of abilities and is not in any way competition oriented. All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate, and this art has been especially effective for those of more vulnerable body types such as children, elderly, sedentary, and chronically injured peoples. Many students have been able to practice Kenpo alongside physical therapy as the physical activity required is not particularly jarring or strenuous but emphasizes restorative poses and circulation.

I started teaching Zumba as a means to motivate me to the next level of my journey to live a healthy lifestyle and I found my greatest joy....DANCING!

Come dance with me at Infused fitness starting Saturday, October 15th, 2016 @ 9:45-10:40. We will dance to Latin American music using new and familiar music. The movements are repetitive and easy to learn infused with salsa, samba and merengue.

The Zumba workout provides fitness benefits because its routines feature interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms and resistance training, which are intended to tone and sculpt the body while burning fat. Music is the key ingredient to Zumba classes. The score, created with specific beats and tempo changes, transitions the workout from one toning, strengthening or cardio move to another, and targets every major muscle group in the body.

Tai Chi

Date:Saturday December 23, 2017
Time: 8:30 am - 9:30 am

Tai Chi

The traditional Yang style Tai-Chi includes 108 forms divided into 3 patterns, and pushing hand practice.
The 108 forms are created and combined by 78 different forms. We also use basic forms for foundation training.

What is the benefit of Tai-Chi Chuan practice? Tai Chi Chuan's health benefits derive largely from this principle of turning the waist. This enables the practitioner to maintain internal strength and fullness by stimulating and massaging the vital organs with every movement. Tai-Chi Chuan is also a high technique of martial arts. It takes a long time to learn but can be used for an effective self-defense technique. Tai-Chi Chuan trains the mind, spirit and body together. This practice is designed for Men and Women over 12 years old.

Tai-Chi Instructor: Peter Jeng

Why do I teach? I was born in Taiwan and started practicing Yang style Tai-Chi Chuan in college. I have loved this exercise since then and it is part of my life now. I have been in the USA for 20 years and now settled in Olympia, WA. I love to teach Tai-Chi Chuan and pass it on to others.

Background: I have practiced Yang Style Tai-Chi Chuan for more than 20 years. The Yang style Tai-Chi started from founder Lu Chan Yang. I am one of the seventh generation successors from the founder. I feel obligated to pass this skill and spirit to benefit others around me.

Kids Kenpo Karate & Self Defense

Date:Tuesday January 2, 2018

ZUMBA

Time: 10:45am - 11:40am

Tai Chi

Date:Saturday January 6, 2018

ZUMBA

Date:Saturday February 10, 2018
Time: 10:45am - 11:40am
